Monster Multiplication

Challenge: To provide a fun and engaging multiplication learning application for primary-aged children. This must simulate some of the interactions of the new digitalised Year 4 multiplication test in the UK. A web-based application, which should be designed for Desktop and Tablets.
The project: Being the only designer on this project, I worked with the product manager, an educational specialist, and a developer on this game. It used the same calculator-style format for the main gameplay interface to mimic the digitalised Year 4 multiplication test. I proposed the idea of using a pet monster to encourage engagement, where each correct answer provides “food” to grow your monster, which evolves as you collect the rewards.
Outcome: Monster Multiplication became one of the most-used maths multiplication applications provided by the online platform with the first month of release, reflected in the daily usage data.
